This USB Type-C (Gen 2) Video Adapter and USB Hub offers HDMI + USB 3.1 Type-C and USB 3.0 Type-A sockets for expanded connectivity from a single USB Type-C port, and full Ultra HD 4K@30Hz video & audio output – simply amazing! Better still, you can use more than one of the outputs on this adapter at the same time for full HDMI audio & video while transferring files from your USB drive 🙂
Simply connect the male Type-C plug to your computer’s Type-C socket, then connect any devices to the adapter’s available sockets. The USB 3.0 Type-A socket will let you connect any manner of USB peripheral (like a USB thumb drive, external hard drive or mouse/keyboard). Meanwhile the USB Type-C socket will extend the function of the port this adapter is connected to, making available that precious Type-C port for any suitable application – complete with up to 5A of power on supported devices. Finally the HDMI port provides high-speed AV transfer rates for resolutions up to 4K/30Hz (please note that your USB Type-C socket must support Thunderbolt 3 or 4 for video output).
USB 3.1 SuperSpeed Type-C: Simplified
With the USB 3.1 Type-C plug, we get a new plug design that is reversible, meaning it inserts with either orientation (no more fiddling for the USB socket in the dark, only to find you have the connector up the wrong way). But physical differences aside, USB 3.1 can now support data transfer speeds up to 10Gbps – that’s twice that of USB 3.0.
But when using this new standard as an AV adapter (as seen here) we’re not concerned with the data throughput and super-mega-gigaflops it can handle, we want to know if our old AV tech will work with our new found USB interface, and the good news is – Yes it will!
